The 'Emerging Markets Banking Awards' celebrate excellence and innovation, putting a spotlight on the organisations & individuals that have demonstrated continued success in difficult markets. Definitions of Emerging Markets vary but are commonly considered to be countries that have certain characteristics of a Developed Market, but do not meet required standards to be regarded a Developed Market. These countries will include those that may be developed markets in the future or have been in the past. Rapid-growth emerging markets have been for some time the engines of global economic growth. With swiftly-rising incomes, many emerging markets banks have benefited by providing services to meet the ever sophisticated banking needs of their clients.
On a broader scale, banking is now moving forward in spite of the problems experienced in the sector. The banking system prior to the 2008 financial crisis was characterised by short termism and individuals determined to create profit for shareholders. But the system that followed focuses on giving a nod to all stakeholders with sustainable business models at the heart of proceedings.
